Shake Roofs

Bonn Roof Care recommends either a pressure or a non-pressure wash system to restore your wood shake or shingle roof.

Moss growth, debris build-up, and the damaging effects of the sun can harm your roof in the following ways:

1. During a rain, moss and debris prevent water from shedding, which promotes leaks.

2. After the rain stops, they keep the surface from drying, which promotes the growth of wood-rotting organisms.

3. Sunshine cracks wood shakes which will eventually lead to dry-rot.

Gutter cleaning is also an important function that will prevent clogged downspouts and allow proper drainage.

Pipe boot and ventilation outlets need to be inspected on every visit, as seals are made of rubber and will deteriorate over time.

Bonn Roof Care provides two unique cleaning systems. Your roof will need to be evaluated to determine which system is most beneficial for your roof's needs. The removal of debris, moss, and fungus without damaging shakes takes proper procedures and special equipment. The following restoration process will extend the life of your roof.

Shake Restoration Systems

Pressure Wash System

Our low-pressure washers are specifically designed for use on a shake roof , using 6 - 10 gallons of water per minute. Once cleaned by this process, your roof's cosmetic appearance will develop a cedar-tone brown color. A preservative preservative that inhibits the growth of moss and fungus, and maintains the roof's color is then applied. Bonn Roof Care recommends our restoration process to be repeated every 4 - 5 years to maximize life expectancy.

Non-Pressure Wash System

Air is used to remove any surface dirt or debris trapped between the shakes. A wood preservative is then applied which removes moss and fungus all in one step. A winter season of sun and rain will complete the color change process. Your roof's cosmetic appearance will take on a silver-gray color and will remain free of moss and fungus for a 4 year duration.

During the restoration process we:

• Gently clean your roof
• Clean gutters
• Repair/Replace ridge and shakes as needed
• Inspect vents
• Seal pipes as needed
• Apply preservative / moss / fungicide barrier
• Clean job site

Bonn Roof Care recommends a restoration process be repeated every 4 years. A follow-up maintenance program is recommended the next season to remove any surface dirt or debris buildup.
